Abstract

The health benefits of routine physical activity are clear; everyone should be encouraged to participate in physical activity. Recent evidence has highlighted the health risks associated with engaging in too much sedentary behaviours (particularly sitting). Several health promotion campaigns have been created related to this evidence, sometimes to the detriment of physical activity promotion. This student-driven commentary takes the controversial stance to highlight the overwhelming evidence related to physical activity and health and the need to maintain effective health promotion strategies that focus on physical activity.
