Tribute to Dr. Norman Gledhill

It is with deep respect and heartfelt remembrance that we honour the life and legacy of Dr. Norman Gledhill, a pioneering figure in the exercise sciences and sports medicine and a mentor to generations of students, researchers, and practitioners.

Dr. Gledhill was a global leader in the development of evidence-based health and fitness assessment, pre-participation screening and risk stratification, and exercise prescription. His research, teaching, and service shaped national and international standards and elevated the field of applied physiology to new heights. As a long-time professor at York University, he was instrumental in training many of the country’s leading exercise scientists and clinicians. His work in developing evidence-based protocols for health, occupational, and performance assessment has had a lasting impact across clinical, athletic, workplace, and public health domains.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Gledhill was deeply admired for his generosity and unwavering support for his colleagues and students. He cultivated a vibrant and collaborative research environment and remained a lifelong advocate for excellence in science and service to the community.
