Routine physical activity has been shown to be an effective primary and secondary preventative strategy against premature mortality and chronic disease. Unfortunately, little information exists regarding the physical activity levels of Aboriginal children. Purpose The primary purpose of this paper was to briefly review the literature to examine the importance of the routine physical activity and community-based physical activity interventions in Aboriginal children. Methods A narrative review of the literature was conducted. Results There is clear evidence of the need for effective community-based physical activity initiatives that address the unique needs of Aboriginal children, their families and their community. Conclusions Effective physical activity interventions have an enormous potential for reducing the risk for chronic disease in Aboriginal children.
}, number={1}, journal={The Health & Fitness Journal of Canada}, author={Warburton, Darren E.R. and Foulds, Heather J.A. and Rhodes, Ryan E. and Charlesworth, Sarah and Bredin, Shannon S.D.}, year={2008}, month={Jan.}, pages={9–13} }
